Richard Bagguley was born in the UK on November 12th 1955. After a private education at Reeds school, Cobham he attended Bournemouth and Pool College of art and studied photography, following a brief spell as photographer and illustrator for Hull University magazine. At 21 Richard set off to Latin America.
For 8 years he travelled the world dealing in textiles whilst photographing and drawing the people of South America, Asia and Australia finally settling in London. In 1987 he turned to mural work to complete over 450 private and commercial commissions in 6 countries.
In 2000 he started to do more work on canvas, a series on Tribal art for the River Nile gallery in Spain and portrait commissions in the UK. In 2002 he felt the need to create work with more substance and started on a private series of paintings which form the body of work first shown in the Chelsea arts club in March 2009.
At the same time the documentary "Heaven, Hell and Bagguley" inspired by the contrast in the artists work was made by Max Thurlow,this and an updated body of work was shown at the Maverik gallery at the end of October 2009. In October 2010 the reverend Dr. Brian Leathard invited him to use St.Luke’s Church in Chelsea to put a two week exhibition.
